Q THE MAKING OF
I see there’s lye in your soap. Isn’t that bad?
Our soap includes olive oil, laurel oil, some lye and water. The lye disappears during the saponification process and no lye is left in the final product.
How can three liquids (olive oil, laurel oil and water) make a hard soap?
Our cubes are are made through something called a hot process. The olive oil, lye and water are mixed and boiled for a few days. It is due to the chemical reaction of the oil together with the lye and water that a thick liquid soap is created. At last, the laurel oil is added.
What is laurel oil?
Laurel oil comes from the berries off of the Laurus nobilis tree, growing around the Meditteranean sea. This berry has been used for centuries in food (the source of several popular herbs and spices used in a wide variety of recipes) and alternative medicine.
Q THE CUBE
What difference does the percentage of laurel make?
Laurel oil is a natural anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial agent. Depending on your skin and scalp type, increase or decrease the amount of laurel berry oil in your cube. If you have problematic and sensitive skin and scalp, we recommend The Guardian Angel, our cube with the highest amount of laurel. Let it calm skin or scalp that is red, irritated or flaky.
How do I best store my cube?
Make sure to rinse your cube after you’ve used it so that no soap residue is left. Then store it someplace dry so that it is not standing in water. A soap dish where water and soap residue can run through is perfect - we recommend The Sidekick, allowing water to drain from beneath the cube with its zigzag-like design.
How long does my cube last?
This depends, of course. If you only use your soap for washing, say, your hands, one cube will last much longer than if you use it to take care of all your beauty duties – from washing your hair, to shaving your legs, to cleansing your entire body. But it’s safe to say it lasts usually lasts about 2-3 months when using it to take care of several beauty duties. And even more so if using it for less.
How long does it take for my hair to get used to washing with Aárd?
When you stop using conventional shampoos and conditioners with strong chemicals in, such as sulfates, parabens and silicones, your hair will need some time to adjust. This can take up to a few weeks for some, while for others, much less.
How long can I go without washing my hair when using Aárd?
This varies from person to person. But many people have experienced being able to increase the time between washes by the double amount.
How do I get best results when washing my hair with my Aárd cube?
Make sure to be thorough when washing out all soap residue from your hair and brush your hair often, evenly spreading your natural oils from your scalp, throughout your hair. Also, washing your hair with only water in between washes whilst massaging your scalp also does a great deal.
