A good soap is an essential part of improving the overall health and sanitation around the world. Washing your hands with soap and clean water is the first protection against a lot of diseases. However, today 2.3 billion people don’t have that luxury. That is a third of the people living on our planet.

WaterAid has since 1981 worked to provide clean water, toilets and good sanitation for more and more people around the world. They have given over 26 million people better access to good hygiene by providing them with clean water, soap and education. Education in hygiene is according to the World Bank the most cost-effective preventive health measure.

The 15th of October is Global Handwashing Day.

The purpose of this day is to pay attention to why good hygiene is so important for everyone's health. We want to take this day to highlight the fact that 2.3 billion people worldwide don’t have access to clean water and good hygiene. At the same time we’d like to play a small part in changing this.
